Xena Warrior Princess kicks Avatar's Jake Sully butt
VS
Yes the graphics are ultra cool in the Avatar. However, I thought I was actually watching a movie that was supposed to have a plot not an IMAX movie with only special effects.
Xena's the Daughter of Pomira episode and Avatar both had a similar storyline; "civilized" humans and weird natives who protect the earth clash. Whereas Xena's episode actually showed a way of peace, a remarkable feat for a one hour tv series, bravo Xena, and boo Jake Sully of Avatar.
The storyline in Avatar was not much more than the most versed and typical fairytale. With the evil general plotted against the harmonious natives. A gallant knight arrives to save the day.
In the Avatar, let's continue the myth of the noble savage, and mystical mother nature that kicks butt. That way we as a species are off the hook, don't have to face the light that we are all responsible for our actions. Sorry dude/dudettes, a magical wand can't just wave it all away.
Where once the natives had no need for jeans or other trinkets that the humans were selling, now they will desire weapons and the art of war. Where once they were in peace with all nature, now they see differences between themselves and humans, and understand hate and division.
All following the typical path of civil war between their species with the introduction of the concepts of division, killing to get what you want. The problem is the military industrial complex, and more fighting isn't going to solve it.
I preferred District 9 on the philosophy, because there is a better understanding about the issues of racial divide, and war. To me, lack of respect whether for other humans or other living creatures, and using destructive methods to get what we want is all tied together.
